The purpose of this overview is to examine the scientific data regarding the glycemic index's role in chronic Western diseases and to talk about how beneficial it is for managing and preventing these kinds of issues. Foods are ranked according to their post-meal glycemic reaction by the glycemic index. The etiology of diabetes, coronary heart disease, and cancer has been connected to hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, and its determinants (such as high calories consumption, and obesity, and physical inactivity). Because different forms of carbs result in diverse glycemic and insulin responses, carbohydrates have recently drawn a lot of attention as a major causal component among dietary variables. According to certain research, foods with a low glycemic index—which are defined by a slow absorption of carbohydrates—have positive effects on blood lipids, insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, glucose regulation, and satiety. There will be presentations and discussions on research on the short- and long-term metabolic impacts of diets with varying glycemic indices. In addition to briefly discussing laboratory findings pertaining to putative processes by which glycemic index may affect chronic diseases, the review will mostly concentrate on factors that influence glycemic index.
